ABOUT

Our Mission

Our Beginnings
The official Southeast Queens Dog Run group started in September 2021 with a need to take ‘Mr. Frisky’ to the park for a run, but when researched, there were none in the area, only outside of the community. So, after reaching out to Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards office and began getting the scoop on the proposed Dog Run. Unfortunately, if no ‘group’ was formed, the idea would’ve been demolished and the $1.1 million would’ve been allocated to something else. After doing a community survey, I realized many would support the idea. After speaking with the NYC Parks Commissioner, a Coach was provided and I began scouting for loyal, dedicated, participants who wanted to join this historic community venture while being guided along the way. Multiple Park visits, Community Board Meetings, and Conversation began to form. This is no one's individual park’, this is a community invested project that needed a group formed to come to life. I stepped up to make that happen for my community and all the dogs who deserve a safe space to play and roam freely. We have served hundreds of pet owners and their ‘Fur-babys’ Pet Care, Safety & Licensing Workshops. Today we have 7 core members and are recruiting ambassadors so we can secure and oversee more Dog Runs in our pet-friendly community.

National News
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), a national non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all Americans have access to parks and recreation for health, conversation and social equity conducted a poll which concluded that 91% of Americans agree dog parks provide benefits to the communities they serve. Former CEO and President for 11 years, Barbara Tulipane stated," Dog parks are among the fastest growing amenities park and recreation agencies offer. Whether it's allowing dogs a chance to play off-leash or get exercise with their owners, having a safe space to roam freely benefits the surrounding community.
